Could you maybe post an image with your explanation so we can see visually what you are talking about? Sorry to bother you like that. Worst case scenario though, even if I don't help you, the extra insight with the images may help the community help you more efficiently.
From my experience with the tool, I found that when dealing with the crosstab component, CSS manipulation has usually got me to my dashboard end-state. In regards to resolution changes, I've started using basic @media queries to great effect in the CSS file to resize certain components when necessary. The Design Studio SCN has a lot of posts, blogs and comments on responsive design to search through, you may just have to manipulate the idea in the direction of your dashboard solution.
